1. When checking out do not talk on the phone or to anyone else except the cashier. Good cashiers give you their undivided attention...you do the same.
2. When you come up to the cash register and you lay your items down and then the cashier rings up a few of your items...do NOT go back and do more shopping for 5, 10, 15 or even 1 minute. The other people in the line or the cashier do not have that time to waste!
3. When you see the cashier is checking other customers out, do not come up and ask him/her a question....wait until between customers.
4. Do not take your agression out on the retail workers. We really have nothing to do with the policies or products. We are the lowest people on the totem pole. We can only do what we're told. You have no right to get mad at us for something we have no control over.
5.Don't be afraid to ask the workers questions (when you're not interrupting a transaction, or a conversation with another customer). That is why we are here. And more than likely...if we are guest servicing we're really bored b/c everyone keeps saying "No i'm just looking". And so we feel useless. We get pretty excited when someone has a question for us.
6. Be kind to the greeter. It is the greeters job to tell you any promotions and what not. When the greeter is talking to you don't be a jerk and ignore her and walk off while she's talking to you, forcing her to talk to the back of your head. Even if you don't care what the greeter has to say...LISTEN ANYWAYS! Then smile and say thank you and go on your merry way. We only ask for 10 seconds of your time.
7. Don't let your kids throw the products all over the store and then not pick them up.
8. When you're carrying a product around and then decide you don't want it, don't lay it down in a random place...either put it back or give it to a worker.
9. Don't assume that just b/c the business we work for has a lot of money, we also have a lot of money. I'm a cashier...I'm paid minimum wage. Don't treat me like I have more money than you. It's rude and judgemental.
10. And the opposite of #9. Don't act like you're better than me just b/c i work retail. The point is...just treat me with respect and don't assume stupid things.
*This doesn't mean i don't like my job...i do...but i have learned some things about retail that really irk me...so i just want y'all who have never worked in retail to understand. |
